Airport Workout…With Weights – Triathlon Training Day 82

February 4, 2016

Today’s workout was a super simple one. Air France’s Sky Team apparently doesn’t honor the “two bags free” rule even if you are a Gold Medallion member on Delta. So my workout consisted of having Air France change the terms of my Gold Sky Miles luggage perks midway through a trip, haggling with the counter agent, the supervisor, the luggage manager, giving up, paying the additional charges, speeding through security (luckily with only one small holdup for my camera bag) and then sprinting to gate 23 to catch flight AF12 to Paris and then connecting to Morocco. My computer bag with all my electronics and laptop plus my camera bag together weigh almost 50 pounds. I know that sounds ridiculous but they truly weigh 35 and 15 pounds respectively. Ask any of my coworkers they will validate. The weight of my bag is one of the running office jokes.

My rump was burning by the time I lurched to a stop at gate 23. Andrew and Zach were valiantly fending off the gate agent for me. They successfully kept the agent from shutting the doors before I arrived. [Thanks guys!] I passed through the jetway and found my seat. The crisis is over but my butt will pay for it. It felt equivalent to running up a steep hill for a couple of miles without stopping. Although I was disappointed that they made us pay for additional bags, I was incredibly relieved that I was actually on the flight after my arduous trek to gate 23. I looked at my step counter and it told me I had run a full mile through London Heathrow Airport.
